1950 Chris Craft Riviera 18 ft

Here is an opportunity to own a classic wooden boat. George is now offering this 1950 Chris Craft Riviera inboard runabout. She is a beautiful restored example of a true runabout “for flashing across blue inland waters at breath-taking speeds” as Chris Craft said in its literature in the 1950s. Built by the Chris Craft family during a time when the founders still owned the boat company, she is a revered classic wood boat with her bleached blonde king-plank coupled with natural finished mahogany planking for the definitive classic restored wooden boat look.
This is the desirable amidships double cockpit performance runabout in the right size for this model Chris Craft with red cockpit upholstery for additional flash. She also has the biggest engine choice: the high compression, triple-carb, KBL engine, which is sometimes said to be one of the best engines Chris Craft made.

In storage for over 35 years, she has now been professionally brought back to better than new condition. The mahogany wood is 99% original with new stain and 12 coats of varnish. This boat was in the water this summer and was something of a “show stopper” at both the past Annapolis Powerboat Show and the St. Michaels Show.

The boat is powered by the original Hercules KBL engine that will idle smoothly at 500 rpm. Everything in or on the engine has been reworked or upgraded with a high-output electronic ignition system, electric fuel pump with low oil pressure shut-off switch, 3 rebuilt carburetors, rebuilt water pump, new fuel lines, new water hoses, new motor mounts,  new Coast Guard fuel tank, new Racor fuel water separator.

She has all new marine wiring and fuse block. Upgraded to 12-volt electrical system with dual marine batteries. 2 new bilge pumps (one auto/man). New bilge blower, new switches for pumps and blower concealed under dash. New tachometer cable. Original all-bronze flexible marine coupling on the shaft. (This is a very rare option ).

Everything looks great and works as it should. The trailer is a 1999 custom, fit to the 18’ Riviera, with new tires, hubs and bearings.
